A few years ago, my parents decided that life had more to offer our family than the one we were living at the time.
So, we made a big decision: we sold everything in our hometown in Germany, bought a 12-meter-long MAN Kat truck, and set out to see where the road would take us.
This wasn’t some spur-of-the-moment idea turned into reality overnight.
It was the result of a lot of out-of-the-box thinking and even more courage that led us down this unconventional path.
We had our reasons for leaving, so we did.
The whole project took years of planning and preparation, with plenty of ups and downs along the way.
There was so much to figure out… from selling the house, deciding what to bring, and going through every single box in the basement, to sorting out health and other insurances, buying the truck, and turning it into our new home.
It’s hard to even put into words how much work went into this, most of which my parents carried on their shoulders.
Even with all the planning, there were so many moments when we had to improvise and make compromises.
We had to stay calm and patient, even when things felt completely up in the air.
But luck was on our side when it mattered most, and eventually, the day came…
We were ready to move into our new home on wheels, Hartmut.
And just like that, a new chapter began:
“First Time on the Road.”
Right to the beginning of our new life, my dad created the Instagram Account
@Hartmut_OnTheWay
and has been putting a lot of heart into sharing our life on wheels.
